AN ONLINE calculator aims to address perceptions that official inflation figures are lower than the figures being experienced in households.
Householders will be given the chance to work out their own personal inflation rate.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) will launch the online calculator on January 15 as part of an initiative aimed at showing how inflation affects weekly shopping baskets and the bills people pay.
The official figure is currently 2.7%, but rising fuel and energy costs heighten feelings that the rate should be higher.
National statistician Karen Dunnell said: "People often ask why the national inflation figures, which we publish every month, do not correspond with their own experience."
