A BEER festival pulled in £2,500 for underprivileged children.

The Huddersfield 68 Round Table hosted a beer festival in Shelley at the weekend to raise funds to take children on an adventure-packed weekend away.

Jeremy Child, chairman of the Round Table, said: “The money we raise from our fundraising work goes to support Wharfeside House and take a group of underprivileged children on a weekend away which they wouldn’t usually get the chance to go on.

“We take them hiking, fishing and horse riding in the Dales.

“We also donate money to support the work of Wharfeside House, which scout and community groups from Huddersfield can use.”

The backing of local businesses meant the Round Table was able to put proceeds of beer festival admissions and sales into the fundraising pot.

“I’d like to thank 17 local businesses for their sponsorship,” Jeremy added. “Also thanks to the Arqiva group who donated a prize to go up Emley Moor mast.”

The beer festival took place at Shelley Village Hall and featured 17 types of beer.

Students of Kirklees Music School provided entertainment to festival-goers.

The Huddersfield Round Table is a charity fundraising and social and organisation for men which holds regular community events.

Wharfeside House in Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales, is owned by the Huddersfield Wharfeside Youth Trust, which offers opportunities for young people to take part in outdoor activities.
