GOLCAR ale-lovers enjoyed a merry weekend at the village's annual beer festival.

Several hundred people attended the Golcar Beer Festival, which was held on Saturday at Golcar Conservative Club on Knowle Road.

It was organised by the men-only Golcar Winkle Club, which created the festival last year to boost its funds.

The club collects funds to donate to worthy causes in the Colne Valley.

At Saturday's festival, drinkers sampled a variety of hand-pumped real ales from breweries and micro-breweries around the area, including Golcar Brewery - run by John Broadbent.

Last year, Mr Broadbent's daughter Gemma, 23, invaded the male-dominated beer festival and produced her first ale, a red ale called Fettlers' Fancy.

The beers were sponsored by local businesses.
