SLIMMED-DOWN Eric Paxman is preparing to run in one of the world's biggest races.

The Netherton man - who has shed nearly eight stone by jogging - will take part in this year's London Marathon.

And the super-fit chef is doing the 26-mile course to raise money for leukaemia research after his cousin's fiancé was struck down by the disease.

Eric is looking forward to the marathon on Sunday, April 22.

He said: "I think it will be amazing, the whole ambience, all the people cheering you on.

"It's been a dream of mine. It's the number one thing in my life to do."

The 27-year-old ran his first two marathons last year.

He completed the Blackpool race in 3hr 10min in June and the Nottingham event in 3hr 1min in September.

He said: "I want to get under three hours this time."

Eric, a chef at Bradley's restaurant in Fitzwill;iam Street, Huddersfield, has been running for three years - going from 20 stone to 12½ in the process.

He runs every day, clocking up 100 miles a week around Meltham, Holmfirth, Honley and Berry Brow.

Eric said: "It's a fantastic feeling when you finish a run, like you've accomplished a great task."

His run in the London Marathon will raise money for the Anthony Nolan Trust, which helps people with leukaemia.

His cousin Emily Battye's fiancé, Stuart Jones, was diagnosed with the disease in September - just a month before the couple were due to get married.

Eric said: "As you can imagine, the wedding had to be postponed, which was chaotic for them.

"It's been a very tough time for them, so I'd like to help out."
