A WOMAN with cancer has helped raise thousands of pounds for charity.
Cheryl Messenger organised a fun day at Deighton Working Men’s Club.
The event raised more than £2,000 for cancer charities Macmillan Nurses and the Little Princesses Trust.
Cheryl, 47, of Bradley, was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes two months ago and began chemotherapy two weeks ago.
She said: “Some of the other people at the club didn’t want me to walk round with a bald head on my own so they decided to have their heads shaved.
“Then I thought we could make it into a charity event.”
Four people had their heads shaved at the fun day. There were also children’s games, karaoke and a disco.
The event raised £2,300. “It’s a very good figure,” said Cheryl.
