PUPILS at Rawthorpe St James’s School have been celebrating the first anniversary of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Campaign for School Gardening.

As well as learning in the classroom, children at the school have been getting their hands dirty in the school garden, growing food and looking for small animals to study.

Sue Manks, a nursery nurse at the school, said: “All our children love getting involved with the outside world.

“They love the freedom and enjoy being out in the fresh air and learning the importance of nature.

“Children who don’t necessarily shine in the classroom can really come into their own when learning outside.”
