CHILDREN are enjoying getting to grips with their new play area.

The playground at Heatherleigh Playing Fields was finished at the height of this year’s cold snap.

But it has come into its own with the arrival of the warmer weather and children have been flocking to have fun on the new equipment.

The grassed area, which is bounded by The Oaks and Lindley Moor Road, has been a football field for many years.

But before the play area was installed there was nothing there specifically designed for children.

Lindley ward councillor Christine Stanfield said: “As former Play Champion for Kirklees and former Chair of the Play Forum, I am particularly pleased that at last this play area is now installed.

“As soon as the families moved into The Oaks there were requests for a play area.

“We had discussions with the Culture and Leisure Service, but there were several obstacles to be overcome.

“It has taken a long time, but I am delighted that at last there is a play area for children who live in this part of Lindley.”
