COLNE Valley children have been voicing their ideas about a riverside sculpture trail for the area.

Children have been taking part in workshops as part of the River Wish campaign, being run by the River Colne Project.

The River Wish campaign aims to find out what local people think about installing a sculpture trail along the length of the River Colne from Milnsbridge to Marsden.

Workshops have been held from June to October at Marsden Junior School, Wellhouse Junior and Infant School and at community meetings.

During the events, children and adults have had the chance to see models of existing sculpture trails, have walked along the river banks and have made their own sculpture ideas at art workshops.

River Colne Project officer Mick Smith said: "We called it River Wish because we want to include as many ideas from local children, young people and adults as possible.

"The children came up with fantastic ideas, from mosaic waterfalls to their own imaginary creatures."

The ideas will be on show during 2005, when an exhibition will tour the Colne Valley.

The consultation stage of the sculpture trail project has been funded by the River Colne Project, Kirklees Cultural Services, the Community Spirit charity shop at Slaithwaite and Cuckoo's Nest shop at Marsden.
