Two-year-old Scarlett Wallin’s eyes lit up when she spotted this huge chocolate cake made by her dad.
The three tier, sweetie-topped cake was one of the highlights of a Big Chocolate Cake Tea Party and Bake Off organised by Scarlett’s mum and dad.
Rory Wallin, 37, and partner Victoria Arabskyj, 26, of Lower Hopton, cooked up a cunning way of raising money for a charity which helped out when Scarlett’s baby brother Louie fell seriously ill.
Rory baked this glorious Smartie and marshmallow-topped monster and then invited party goers to guess the weight.
The winner who was nearest was 10-year-old Chloe Bell, who ended up taking the cake home.
The party at Mirfield Community Centre raised £240 for the Sick Children’s Trust, the charity which provided accommodation for the family when Louie was admitted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital with a lung infection.
The couple woke to find Louie blue in the face and struggling to breathe and he was rushed to Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax.
The four-week-old twin was transferred to Sheffield and the family – including Louie’s brother Leo – stayed at Treetop House, accommodation run by the trust.
Last weekend the couple raised £1,400 at a charity auction and have topped up the funds with the tea party.
A cake-baking contest was jointly won by mum Victoria and Carol Senior while Vanessa Wilkinson and Bev Luty came second and third.
Victoria and Rory’s baking skills went down a treat and Victoria said it had been a great day.
“We had lots of people come along and everybody tucked into the cake,” she said. “There was hardly a crumb left.”
