A BRIGHOUSE singer led a choir at Ground Zero, New York, on September 9, in memory of the 9/11 victims.

John Morris, founder of Sing Live UK, led 85 British performers on a rousing rendition of World in Union at St Paul Memorial Chapel.

The church, next to the site of the World Trade Center, survived after the towers collapsed following terrorist attacks. It has now become a memorial.

Mr Morris and his singers were due to perform on a cruise ship from New York, but were invited to sing at Ground Zero four weeks before the sixth anniversary of 9/11.

Sing Live UK were invited to continue singing in an impromptu concert and have been invited to sing again at the historic site.

Mr Morris said: “It was extremely emotional. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place. It was great to represent the UK and an honour to be there.

“It came as a bit a surprise to be invited and to tell our singers at a rehearsal was jaw-dropping. There aren’t many people who get that opportunity.”

Sing Live UK gives amateur singers the chance to perform in unusual places.
