The town centre is looking festive as the Christmas tree in St George’s Square has been put up.

Kirklees Council has paid for the tree, plus others in towns and villages around the borough.

There’s still plenty of events to help get people into the Christmas spirit.

On Saturday Meltham will be illuminated with a day of activities for the family.

It gets under way with a coffee morning in the Church Hall from 9.30am until noon; a Christmas craft-making workshop takes place in the Carlile Institute from 10am to 4pm; Santa’s Grotto from noon until 4pm; a Santa Dash at 2pm; a carol concert at the Church at 4pm and the lights will be switched on at 5pm, followed by a family disco in the church hall at 7pm.
