A man drove when nearly four times over the legal drink-drive limit.

Christopher Turner hit another vehicle as he left Tesco Express in Scissett on September 1.

Police station breath tests revealed that he had 134 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit of 35 mgs.

Turner, of Wakefield Road in Clayton West, admitted the offence to Kirklees magistrates.

He claimed the 10 cans of Strongbow he’d drunk the previous evening had contributed to the reading.

Magistrates banned the 36-year-old from driving for 30 months. They also ordered him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work, pay £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.
