A CHURCH in Golcar is celebrating its 175th anniversary in style.

Members of the choir at St John's Church have created an original musical called God's Scar that takes a light-hearted look at the history of Golcar.

They have written the lyrics and music for the performance which focuses on when, according to legend, St Guthlac came to convert the natives to Christianity and gave Golcar its name.

The play looks at Golcar's history and development as a lively community.

Sue Starr has written the lyrics and is also director and producer, with the music being written by Margaret Laycock.

Sue said: "It should be great fun for everyone. A lot of church members and the local community will be involved and are looking forward to it."

The musical will be staged from March 17 to 19, and will be held at the church.

An anniversary dinner is also expected to be held as part of the celebrations.
