A HUDDERSFIELD church lent 100 helping hands to make a difference to a school garden.

More than 50 members of the Mormon church on Halifax Road, Birchencliffe, took part in a Helping Hands day at Greenside Infant and Nursery School in Almondbury.

Clean-up leader Lisa Taylor is pictured (front) with some of the helpers.

Members of the congregation got their hands dirty to help the school get its new garden into shape.

Church member Maureen Brown said: "One of our members is a governor at the school and during a meeting talking about the gardens she volunteered our group to lend a hand."

Maureen said the Helping Hands day was an annual event aimed at bringing communities together.

She added: "We worked hard. There was plenty to be done.

"We weeded and prepared flowerbeds, so the youngsters can plant the flowers, and did much more.

"It was hard work, but everyone who took part said it was definitely worth it and they enjoyed making a difference."
