THE World’s Day Of Prayer was celebrated in the Colne Valley.

St James Church in Slaithwaite held the service to celebrate the special day yesterday. It is celebrated every year on the first Friday in March.

Readers from six parish churches in Colne Valley took part in the service. Ann Dyson, Besey Whitwam and Maureen Weaving from St James church read at the service. The Rev Joanne Archer-Siddall led the parish sermon.

This year the focus of the service was Christian Women in Papua New Guinea.

The first service began at sunrise in Tonga.

The day was celebrated by over 170 countries with more than 5,000 services held throughout England and Wales.
