A CINEMA has closed for two weeks while it gets a new look.

The Penistone Para- mount is to get new seats and carpets.

Operations manager Rob Younger said: "The bar area is also undergoing a long-awaited refit, with new seating, carpets and decoration."

The cinema shut after last Saturday's showing of Vera Drake. It is scheduled to re-open on Saturday, April 23.

Two open days will be held - from 10am to 2pm on April 23 and 24 - for people to look at the improvements.

Mr Younger said: "We will have various items on display, for example a working cinema projector, hopefully.

"We'll show you behind the scenes and let you have a go at handling 35mm film."

Representatives will be present from local groups which use the cinema, such as the amateur dramatic society, the organ trust and choirs.

The open days would be relaxed and informal, added Mr Younger.
