FORMER pupils of Huddersfield College held a reunion – 59 years after they left.

The ex-pupils of the college, which later became Huddersfield New College, are now 75 and they wanted to do something to mark the milestone.

So the 16 members of Class 5PA held a celebratory lunch.

One of the former pupils, Bob Hinchliffe, even flew in from Canada, while another travelled from northern Scotland to attend.

Michael Rhodes said: “There were 27 members of the class and sadly we have lost nine over the past few years.

“We have had two other reunions, one in 1999 when it was 50 years since we left, and another in 2003 when we all turned 70.

“It is good to see everyone again, some of them I hadn’t seen for 50 years.

“I’m sure we will continue to see each other as long as we can.”

Mr Rhodes, of Fixby, left the school in 1949 and went on to work for Lloyds Bank.

Some of his classmates went on to become accountants, surveyors and estate agents.

He and Arthur Martin and Gerrard Firth tracked everyone down in 1999.
