THREE Huddersfield men were in London today ready for the latest round in a David v Goliath battle.
All three are officials of the Clayton Fields Action Group – the organisation fighting to keep a green space between Edgerton and Birkby free of development.
And the trio – Mike Hardy, Bill McGee and David Bowen – were due in the High Court to continue their fight.
They are representing the group against a development company, Padico (267) Ltd, who want the right to build on the land.
The developers are represented by barrister George Laurence QC who has established a reputation in similar cases.
But the Huddersfield Three are not fazed by the challenge.
“We know we have a strong case and are willing to prove it”, said Mr Hardy. “We have been fighting this battle for many years and have won every round up to now.
“The latest challenge is over the ‘locality’ of Clayton Fields. The developers are arguing it is not a locality despite the fact that it is a space enjoyed by many hundreds of people from communities in Birkby and Edgerton.
“They have a top barrister, but we will be going in there confident in our ability. We were given a £750 grant by the Open Space Society and used it to get legal advice, so we know where we stand.”
