A WONDERFUL new world of play has been opened up at Clayton West.

And it is due in part to funding from the local parish councillors.

Denby Dale Parish Council agreed to donate £500 towards sensory equipment for disabled children.

Now children at the United Reform Church in Clayton West have some great new equipment, filled with lights and colour.

They have been lucky enough to be some of the first to receive funding from the parish council for such a project.

The money has helped buy sensory equipment to help disabled children learn through play via visually and physically stimulating toys.

The group is a registered charity run by a committee of parents and meets each Friday from 9.30am to 11.30am.

Mrs Joanna Rhodes, committee member said, “We are delighted that the parish council has been so supportive.

“Now we would like to encourage local residents to come and make use of our new facilities with their children.

“We are disability friendly and want to promote inclusion of all children in the group and provide support and friendship to parents and carers.”

Each session run at the church has planned activities including craft, music and movement, story time and singing as well as lots of playtime on the equipment and refreshments.

Children are able to experience playing in “The Dark Den” with stunning fibre optics and ultra violet backlight glowing equipment.

They can also play with moving balls in the SensaTrak area.

The mirror chimeabout is a big attraction for young babies as are the didicars which move like lightning up and down the hall.

Mrs Rhodes said: “The money has been a massive help.

“Without it we wouldn’t have been able to buy all the new equipment we’ve got now.

“A favourite amongst the infants are the new musical instruments. We’ve got boomwhackers and ethnic musical instruments, and it is fun to watch them play with all the instruments.

“We couldn’t do it without the help of the parents who are involved in the committee, they’re all so dedicated and passionate about helping the children.”

Access is via the ramp to the side of the building.
