AN organisation which gives an impression of being a charity, sells the clothes it collects door-to-door.
The Examiner can reveal that SOS Support Ltd which is delivering leaflets in the Huddersfield area is a London-based company which only gives a small amount of the money it makes from collections to help children in Lithuania.
Leaflets have been posted through homes in Marsh and Salendine Nook in recent days, urging people to donate clothes, shoes, bedding, towels, handbags, belts and soft toys.
The leaflet states SOS Support Ltd has close links with a Lithuanian charity called All Lithuania Children to help orphans and families.
The leaflet states: “Your contributions will make a great difference to the children and we believe that with your help we will reach all of our objectives.’’
The leaflet gives two website addresses for more information – one not working and the “under construction”.
When contacted by the Examiner via a mobile phone number on the leaflet, a woman who refused to give her name confirmed SOS Support Ltd was a company registered at Companies House in the UK.
She said: “We sell the goods and make a contribution to help the children – just a small amount. We have had recommendations from the Charity Commission about changing the leaflet and adding clearer information. We are not a charity, we are a limited company.’’
