A COUNCILLOR has warned of the “Americanisation” of a Huddersfield road.
Clr Christine Stanfield is concerned at the number of advertising hoardings in the conservation area along Halifax Road.
The Lindley Lib Dem said: “There has been a proliferation of large intrusive advertising signs and banners.
“They have spread on to Hungerford Road and Thornhill Road as well.
“Lots of residents have spoken to me about this.”
Clr Stanfield believes the hoardings are inappropriate in a conservation area.
“We’re beginning to look like those rather strange American towns that have large billboards and overhead cables everywhere,” she said.
Clr Stanfield added she would check with Kirklees Council to see if the hoardings had planning permission.
“But that’s not really the issue,” she said.
“I believe it’s time we had legislation to differentiate between town centres, residential areas and conservation areas”.
