A CONSERVATIVE councillor met the Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street.

Clr Robert Light, who leads the opposition Tories on Kirklees Council, discussed the Government’s Localism Bill with David Cameron.

The legislation, which is going through Parliament, would give residents increased powers to influence planning and housing policy in their area.

Clr Light said: “It was an honour to visit Downing Street and meet the Prime Minister to discuss the positive changes the Government is making to the way local councils are run.

“By putting an end to the hoarding of power within central government and the top-down control of communities, ministers will allow local people the freedom to run their lives and neighbourhoods in their own way.”
