A RAVENSTHORPE club has given \'a34,200 to Kirkwood Hospice.

The Barclays Club - a private members' club - raised the money over the course of the year.

It held a sponsored walk, which raised \'a31,350 alone, a harvest festival sale, a tombola and a charity chest wax by club member Russell Smith.

Linda Barclay has run the club with husband Peter for 18 years.

Two years after they came to the club, they started raising funds for Kirkwood Hospice.

Over the years, they have raised more than \'a340,000 for the charity.

Mrs Barclay said: "It's a good local charity and we like to help local causes."

Mrs Barclay presented the money to Jane Dutton from the Dalton-based hospice. Also at the presentation was local artist Richard Gawthorpe, who has designed the Kirkwood Hospice charity Christmas card.

The money donated by the club will go towards covering production costs for the cards, so that all the profits from sales can go directly to the hospice.

The card sales usually raise around \'a325,000 for the hospice.

Mr Gawthorpe has designed cards for the hospice before. This year, another artist Brian Halton has also produced a design.
