YOUNGSTERS have been urged to stop hanging around a Colne Valley cricket and bowling club.

Bowling greens have been damaged by youngsters riding bikes across them at Slaithwaite Cricket and Bowling Club.

And the club on Racton Street at Hill Top has recently had two toilet windows smashed and gates damaged.

Club officials have told police, who have promised to step up patrols in the area.

But club officials fear the trouble could get worse if it is not nipped in the bud.

Committee member Christopher Hawkins said: "It is a problem that has only surfaced recently and it is being caused by youngsters aged between 12 and 17.

"They are thought to come from Slaithwaite, Crimble and Linthwaite. There are up to 20 of them there between 7pm and 9pm each evening.

"The last thing we want is any more damage. We would urge parents to support us in this and be aware where their children are and what they are doing."

He said the club put on entertainment aimed at young people, with more than 10 discos a year on Saturday evenings between 6pm and 10pm.

Anyone who knows who is responsible for the damage can pass the names on to club officials or phone the Huddersfield police helpdesk on 01484 436659.
