HONLEY Liberal Club has been granted longer opening hours despite objections.

Kirklees Council's licensing panel decided to allow the club to take advantage of new licensing laws which permit longer opening.

Previously, the Cuckoo Lane club could only supply alcohol between the hours of 10am and 11pm, with 20 minutes extra `drinking up' time.

It could also only play recorded music and have just two musicians performing live at a time, as the club had no entertainment licence.

However, it can now serve alcohol from 11am to midnight from Monday to Saturday, with half an hour drinking up time and on Sundays, it can supply alcohol from 11am to 11.30pm.

It is now also allowed to have live music and entertainment from 8pm to 11.30pm from Wednesday to Sunday.

The club had originally asked to have entertainment and music until midnight, but the panel refused.

The club will also be allowed to have exotic male dancers performing twice a year.

Plays and films will be permitted at the club from 8pm to 11.30pm, from Monday to Sunday and indoor sports events will be allowed from 7pm to midnight.

Special opening hours were fixed for the Christmas period and bank holidays.

On Christmas Eve, alcohol can be served from 11am to 1am, on New Year's Eve serving hours are from 11am to 2am the next day and on New Year's Day, the pub can serve from 11am to midnight.

On Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays during Bank Holiday weekends, the pub can open from 11am to midnight.

There was only one objection to the longer opening hours from a local resident.
