LATE-NIGHT travellers struggled to get home to Huddersfield from Leeds railway station on Saturday.

Several coaches which were supposed to replace trains because of work on the tracks failed to turn up at the station, leaving people stranded.

A Marsh man said: "There were loads of people milling around, between 150 and 200. Both the 10.45pm and 11.10pm coaches had missed, so all these people were waiting for the next bus at 11.45pm."

A spokesman for Transpennine Express, which is part of the First Group and which runs the services, said a timetable of buses had been scheduled due to the work on the track.

He said no specific details were available, but investigations were being made to find out why buses had not turned up.

Lessons would be learned to ensure similar problems did not happen again, he added.
