A man who tried to pay off a drug debt by dealing in cocaine and Mcat has been jailed for two years four months.

Leeds Crown Court heard police went to a house in Cleckheaton, on September 17 last year where Nadeem Rashid was then living.

They found digital scales and numerous self-seal bags in the kitchen area and hidden in a wardrobe in a bedroom 103 grammes of Mcat in 124 individual packages with a street value of £1,554.

They also found 43.2 grammes of cocaine with a street value of £1,728. Rashid’s fingerprints were found on both packages and he told police later in a prepared statement he had a cocaine habit and had been under pressure to pay back a £3,000 drugs debt. He claimed the scales and self-seal bags were for steroids for his own personal use.

Leeds Combined Courts, Crown Court.

Michael Collins representing Rashid said his position last September was grim. “At that time he was a cocaine addicted young man who saw a future that was glamorous and criminal, he has been disabused of that idea.

“He knows on reflection he behaved like an idiot.”

Rashid, 24 of Sunny Bank Road, Mirfield, admitted possessing Mcat and cocaine with intent to supply.

Jailing him Recorder Ben Nolan QC said there had to be an immediate sentence, the cocaine seized was of high purity and cutting agents were also recovered.
