BUS driver Mohan Singh Sokhal received a send-off from his colleagues at First Bus after 40 years service.

They also praised the Kirklees councillor for always ‘being there’ for them when they needed support or advice.

Clr Sokhal MBE was treated to an Indian-style party and was also presented with a trophy at the Sikh Leisure Centre in Springwood.

The Greenhead ward Labour councillor – a former Mayor of Kirklees – and fellow drivers at the party have clocked up more than 230 years’ service, the equivalent of driving more than 4.37m miles.

Co-worker Gurdial Singh Samra said: “Mr Sokhal has not only been very good colleague, but he has also been a very close confidant to all of us.

“He has always been the person who everyone can rely on, regardless of whether it was a private matter, trade union or as a councillor.

“He has always been there for us whenever we needed him.

“He has always been the man of the people, which was reflected when he was returned as a councillor with an increased majority.”
