A HUDDERSFIELD college has maintained its status as one of the best in the country.

Greenhead College came 80th in the latest list of educational league tables, out today but was the best non-selective sixth form college in the country.

The college, which also came 80th last year, finished narrowly behind famous public school Eton but ahead of the renowned Charterhouse school in Surrey.

Greenhead pupils scored an average of 419.3 points per pupil, with 120 points gaining an A, 100 for a B, 80 for a C and so on.

Greenhead principal Martin Rostron said it was great news for staff and students.

He added: "It's like reaching the speed of light. We are getting closer to light speed - but as we do it gets harder."

Mr Rostron said staff and students had a positive attitude and were well supported.

He added: "Sustaining this is hard work, so I I've to pay tribute to staff and students who work so hard."
