STUDENTS of engineering, transport and construction have been rewarded for their achievements at Huddersfield Technical College.

It is the first time apprentices in these fields have had an awards presentation.

Ashley Gibson from Roberttown, who works for Moorland Tooling, claimed four top awards – Turner of the Year, Overall Apprentice of the Year, Advanced Diploma Student of the Year and Apprentice’s Apprentice of the Year.

Queensbury student Luke Petty, who works for Von Roll Isola, won Miller of the Year. Fitter of the Year was Scott Lister, from Heckmondwike, who works for Ross Tooling.

The title of Maintenance Fitter of the Year was taken by Liam Green, who comes from Pontefract and works for Multi Tech.

Electrician of the Year was Jez Joseph, from Huddersfield, who works for Crosslee Plc.

CNC Programmer of the Year was Thomas Gammell, from Huddersfield, who works for Cummins Turbo Technologies. He also won the National Certificate in Manufacturing Student of the Year award.

Intermediate Diploma Student of the Year was James Davies, from Huddersfield, who works for Terex Halco. The National Certificate in Electric/Electronics Student of the Year went to Paul Maher from Huddersfield, who works for Cummins Turbo Technologies.

The award for Higher National Certificate in Manufacturing was won by Daniel Driver from Mirfield. He works for Reliance Precision.

Extended Block Group of the Year was won by Thomas Gammell and Paul Maher (Cummins Turbo Technologies and Von Roll Isola).

Most Improved Apprentice award went to Joshua Broadley, from Huddersfield, who works for Terex Halco.
