FIVE generations of a family gathered to celebrate the arrival of their newest addition.

Two-week-old Ella-Grace joined her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the house of her great-great grandmother Jennie Godfrey, at New Hey Road, Outlane.

Although the busy family often see each other individually, it was unusual for them all to gather in one place at the same time.

Head of the family and host for the occasion was Jennie, 89, a well-known figure in the Colne Valley area.

With her late husband, Roy, she ran various pubs in the area, including the Globe Inn (now Silent Woman) at Slaithwaite, the Coach and Horses, Linthwaite, and the Golcar Lily at Bolster Moor in the 1990s.

One generation younger is daughter Sybil Singleton, who ran Sybil’s hairdressing salon in Causewayside, Linthwaite, for 34 years, until retirement two years ago.

Her daughter Louise Pierce, 45, was also present. Louise is following in her grandmother Jennie’s licensee footsteps, having just taken on The Rock at Brockholes with partner Alan.

Louise’s daughter Jayne Strutt and partner Ashley Turton, both of Blackmoorfoot, are the proud parents of baby Ella-Grace.

Sybil said: “It was very nice to be together, normally, we all see each other at different times.

“Everybody has busy lives, but it was definitely worth the effort.

“Ella-Grace is a beautiful little bundle, she looks just like her mum. My mother loved holding her.

“If she is fit enough, we will all be going along to The Rock to celebrate my mother’s 90th birthday in June.”
