A music festival will get Colne Valley grooving when it spins into action this weekend.

High kicks, back drops and spins will be all the rage at The Sands House in Crosland Hill on Sunday (Aug 30) when the Colne Valley Funk and Soul Festival gets into full swing.

Several hours of the best floor fillers in the genre, Northern Soul and Motown, have been planned from 2pm by Marsden DJ duo Ollie Maude and Karl ‘Lennie’ Leonard, of Colne Valley Funk and Soul Club.

Money raised will go to the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice at Brackenhall.

The event is being run in conjunction with Mark Oldfield, the Sands landlord.

Ollie said: “We’ve been running the Colne Valley Funk and Soul Club since last November and sold out every event since. We get a huge variety in the ages and types of people coming to the events.

“We just thought why not try and do a festival, for free, as a way of showing our appreciation to everyone who’s been down to our events and become part of this brilliant scene.

“After speaking with a few venues we decided that The Sands House was the ideal place and the owners have been to a few of our events so that helped sway it too.

“They mentioned each of their pubs raised money for a different charity which is where the idea of raising some money for a good cause came from.

“Hopefully it’ll be a great day and night for all the family and we’re just really looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces as well as our regulars and having a good dance.”

The music will soundtrack dozens of other family activities, which will include a meet and greet with Peppa Pig and Minions.

Face painting and body art, vintage and French style women’s clothing and handmade gift stalls will also feature, along with a street food barbecue, Dixons ice cream and full bars.
