ORGANISERS are expecting an colourful display at this year's Flower, Vegetable and Handicraft Show in Greenhead Park on Saturday and Sunday.

The show is being held alongside the Lark in the Park.

Visitors are promised an abundance of quality floral displays in a showcase of local and regional entries for the Huddersfield and District Fuchsia Society Open Show and the Yorkshire Gladiolus Society Early Show.

Geoff Hirst, of Kirklees Council's leisure and recreation services, said: "We are hoping to see some excellent displays this year throughout all sections.

"The warm weather should encourage the growth of the flowers and we expect a large number of entries in the vegetable sections."

The event also incorporates the Huddersfield Allotment Gardens' Federation Show with the winners of this year's Kirklees Council allotment competition getting their prizes during the Saturday afternoon.

Schoolchildren are being urged to enter the Crafty Kids picture competition.

The show will be officially opened by the Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Barbara Allonby, at 3.30pm on Saturday.

Prizes for each of the classes will be presented at 3.30pm on Sunday by Kirklees Council's council deputy leader, Clr John Smithson.

Entry to the show is from 1.30pm to 6pm on Saturday and from 10am to 4.45pm on Sunday. Admission is 50p (20p concessions).
