CAMPAIGNERS who have saved a pub from being turned into flats are eager to quickly transform it back into a community hub.

Development plans for the Holy Well Inn, seen right, on Stainland Road, Holywell Green, were thrown out by Calderdale councillors on Wednesday last week.

And campaigners are to now stage an information weekend to share their ideas and rally support.

A gazebo will be erected outside the pub on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm, manned by members of the action group.

Residents who battled to save the 142-year-old inn are now looking at how they can run the pub themselves as a community facility.

Planners had received a 267-signature petition and 17 letters of objection against the development.

Action group chairman John Walsh, told the committee they had sought support from three organisations, Locality UK, Pubisthehub and the Plunket Foundation, to assist them in potentially buying the pub for the community.

He said they had also received an estimation for the full refurbishment of the pub at £100,000 – half the cost previously listed in officers reports.
