A BEAUTY queen has made a dramatic comeback - more than three decades after she was first crowned.

Holmfirth business director Zoe Celensu has been chosen to represent Britain in the Mrs Commonwealth UK beauty competition.

The win comes 32 years after she was voted Miss TV Times in 1972.

And she is loving the return to the limelight.

She said: "It's great. I haven't done anything like this since 1977, but I used to do a lot of contests in the 1970s with my sister Gay.

"Getting back on the catwalk again was nice."

Mrs Celensu, 52, of Lightcliffe, is a director and buyer for Holmspun Clothing at Holmfirth.

She took part in the UK final of the Commonwealth contest at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington Spa.

Contestants aged 15 to 57 competed in three categories - Miss Teen Commonwealth UK, Miss Commonwealth UK and Mrs Commonwealth UK.

As well as modelling evening and casual wear, they had to raise money for the John Fashanu Charity Trust.

Mrs Celensu held car boot sales at Holmspun's Huddersfield Road site.

One winner was chosen for each category and will go on to represent Britain in the Miss Commonwealth international finals on November 20 at the Liverpool Olympia.

Mrs Celensu was chosen as the winner for Mrs Commonwealth UK.

She is a former model and comes from three generations of beauties.

Her mother, Betty Spink, was a runner-up in Miss Great Britain and Mrs Celensu's 19-year-old daughter Suzanne, currently studying sports in North Carolina, America, has also entered numerous beauty competitions.

Most recently, Suzanne represented Halifax in a bid to become Miss England.

Mrs Celensu said: "I actually spotted the entry thinking of my daughter, but she's in America so I entered instead.

"We all do photoshoots for Holmspun brochures, which is handy!"

For winning the title of Mrs Commonwealth UK, Mrs Celensu was given a two-day TV presenting course, mobile phone, and a make-over with News of the World beauty editor Abi Knight.

She was also given a photoshoot to help her create a portfolio of photographs, membership to a health club and Marks and Spencer clothes vouchers.
