PLANS for a village to have its own community centre have earned a £20,000 grant.

Now people of Grange Moor are being urged to pitch in to make sure the dream comes true.

Parish councillor Roy Dobson said: "This is just the start. We need to attract cash from other sources. The hard work starts now, but we are on our way."

The £20,000 towards the project is being given by Kirkburton Parish Council, whose area includes Grange Moor.

Mr Dobson said a new community centre would give youngsters somewhere to go.

He said: "This village has got very little for teenagers.

"With a community centre they can have the space to do something positive.

"As well as providing recreation for young people, other groups in the village will have somewhere for their activities.

"The elderly in particular will have somewhere to meet."

Mr Dobson, who is the parish council's vice-chairman, said he was under no illusions about the size of the work to be done.

"The parish council have shown their support magnificently, it is now time for the people of Grange Moor to crack on and get themselves organised.

"This £20,000 is only the first, small, proportion of what we will need, but it shows other funding groups, like Kirklees Council and the Lottery, that it is a scheme worth supporting."
