IT looked as though fly-tippers had had a field day.
Piles of rubbish were dumped along Whitehead Lane at Primrose Hill, with residents fearing they had been dumped from a lorry.
But there was a good reason for the rubbish on the roadside – it was the result of a community clean-up of Spa Woods.
Volunteers spent hours clearing away years of rubbish from the woods, led by Steven Priest of the Friends of Longley Wood.
And they arranged for Kirklees Council’s cleansing services to shift the rubbish yesterday.
Clr Julie Stewart-Turner said: “The volunteers did a wonderful job.
“There were some awful sights in the woods with years of accumulated rubbish and they spent hours cleaning it away.
“It had to be dumped at the roadside because the road was too narrow for skips.”
