THE public will vote on who gets community cash in a new X Factor-style event.

The West Yorkshire Police Community Trust and Colne Valley Area Committee are inviting bids from groups in Marsden, Golcar and Linthwaite for grants of up to £2,000.

Cash is available to organisations that aim to make a difference and reduce antisocial behaviour.

A total of £10,000 is available.

The winners will be decided by the public.

Insp Mark Trueman, who leads The Valleys Neighbourhood said: “Initiatives like these can make a real difference and should help to address antisocial behaviour issues in the area.”

Groups have to submit applications by next Wednesday.

If they get through to the June 16 final they will then give a five-minute presentation to local people, who will select the five winners.

It is the first ‘participatory budgeting’ event in Kirklees.

The cash comes from fundraising events, private donors and criminal assets seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
