HIGH winds overturned a lorry on the M62 westbound carriageway.

The Bradford-based driver of the blue articulated lorry suffered a suspected broken arm during the incident at about 1.20pm yesterday.

Long tailbacks were caused after the lorry blocked two lanes of the motorway near Scammonden Dam.

All three lanes had to be closed temporarily to remove the vehicle but it was re-opened at about 3.10pm.

A police spokesman said at one time tailbacks of stationary traffic reached junction 25 at Brighouse.

The lorry contained empty milk bottles.

One commuter, travelling from Bradford to Lindley, said: "I was lucky. Someone tipped me off there'd been a crash and I cut through Brighouse.

"But all the way along the motorway, vehicles were nose to tail.

"Even by M62 standards, it looked appalling and you could tell it was major because there was no commuter traffic at Ainley Top - it was all stuck on the motorway."
