STAFF at Birkby-based paving stone supplier, Marshalls, have supported a recycling campaign in memory of a colleague.
More than 1,200kg of clothing and shoes – the largest volume ever collected by an individual company – was made by Marshalls in memory of long-standing employee Brian Commons, for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Brian was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance after a road traffic collision in March. He died later.
The collection was carried out in July by the company across its six sites in Huddersfield and Halifax.
Neil Davidson, group CRS manager at Marshalls, said: “Brian was a much loved colleague at Marshalls and the staff were devastated to hear of his loss.
“We wanted to do something to show our thanks.”
Brian’s widow Marion visited the crew at the YAA’s airbase at Leeds Bradford International Airport with Neil and Bob Shields, a close colleague of Brian’s.
Yorkshire Air Ambulance has operated the campaign for more than five years with their recycling partner Bag It Up Ltd, raising around £250,000 each year.
