A COMPANY providing work for disabled people in Huddersfield has won a National Training Award.

Remploy, which has a factory on the Tandem Industrial Estate at Waterloo, was recognised for outstanding achievement in promoting workplace training.

The company provides work and support for more than 5,000 disabled people in 80 manufacturing sites across the UK.

The Huddersfield factory has about 80 workers, who make foam headrests for the car industry.

Last year, Remploy also helped 3,500 disabled people get jobs with other employers, including BT and the Asda supermarket chain.

The award was made for Remploy's programme to develop production team leaders - more than a third of whom were severely disabled.

About 150 people on the programme gained qualifications in management and team leadership.

Remploy now goes forward to a gala ceremony to be held at the Guildhall in London on Tuesday, November 29, where a number of special awards will be made to a selection of the National Training Award winners.
