EXTENDED licensing hours have been granted to a pub in a quiet residential hamlet.

But residents have beaten the original proposal for music until 2.30am and drinking until 3am at the pub at Thunderbridge.

Kirklees Licensing Panel yesterday placed conditions on The Woodman Inn after residents' concerns.

The pub had applied to serve alcohol from 10am until 3am and play live music until 2.30am - every day of the week.

Around 20 concerned local residents objected to the plans.

Following the objections, the pub owners went to yesterday's panel with proposals to slightly reduce their requested opening hours.

But the panel decided to reduce the opening hours even further.

Alcohol can be served until midnight from Sunday to Thursday, with half an hour drinking up time. Music can be played until 11pm and the noise must not be heard in nearby properties.

On Fridays and Saturdays, music can be played until midnight and must not be heard in nearby homes. Alcohol can be served on these nights until 1am, with half an hour to drink up.

Parish councillor Mike Greetham - who had supported the residents' objections - is pleased with the decision.
