A KIRKLEES councillor has expressed worries over the no-stars rating for Dewsbury DistrictHospital.

Conservative group leader Clr Robert Light has expressed his disappointment at the Mid Yorkshire Trust's failure to make any improvements as it retained its zero status in the 2005 NHS ratings.

He also expressed disappointment at what he called the trust management's negative attitude. They said they had again expected a zero rating.

The ratings were announced yesterday.

The trust running health services in Huddersfield got three stars.

Clr Light said North Kirklees residents had long been treated as second-class citizens - and there was no sign of the situation improving. He added: "Problems with health care in North Kirklees are clearly traceable to the merger which created the trust in 2001."

He called for the Dewsbury hospital to be allowed to split from the trust.
