HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman is backing measures to improve the welfare of greyhounds.

A recent report by the Environment Select Committee urged that new standards be added to an animal welfare bill.

Mr Sheerman said: "I have received many letters from consultants about the welfare of greyhounds.

"Following these letters, I added my name to an Early Day Motion calling for improvements in the welfare of greyhounds.

"I am pleased to see that the select committee has recommended action and has taken notice of the growing concern about this issue."
