THIRTEEN has proved unlucky for the organisers of one of Huddersfield's biggest outdoor concerts.

Tomorrow's Concert On The Hill, which would have been the 13th time the event had been held at  YMCA Rugby Union Club at Laund Hill, Salendine Nook, has been called off.

Concert organiser  David Roebuck said: We are so disappointed  but the ground is completely awash. It looks like Hollingworth Lake.

"I've never seen anything like it. There should have been 1,500 people here today including three parties celebrating birthdays.

"But it would be unsafe for us to go ahead.  It would cause all sorts of problems with the site in its present condition and there would be no pleasure for people sitting out in the field to listen to the band and the choirs we have invited.

"It will cost us money and obviously we are disappointed that the charities we support will not benefit."

Mr Roebuck said it was unlikely the concert could be rescheduled for this summer and ticket money would be refunded.

"We can't rearrange for another date because we have our rugby commitments. The Giants' second team play here."

Those with tickets should contact the point of sale, either Laund Hill or Kirklees Information centres, for a refund.
