OLD folks are set to receive a special gift at the centenary celebration of their tea and concert treat.

The 100th Denby Dale and Cumberworth Gathering and Concert will be held on Saturday April 25, at 2pm at the Denby Dale Pie Hall.

The first gathering was held on March 27, 1909.

Senior Citizens from the villages of Denby, Denby Dale, Cumberworth, High Flatts and Birdsedge will enjoy an afternoon tea, socialising with their friends.

Each guest will receive a special tumbler with the engraved tribute 1909 – 2009 on it.

Hosts will be the gathering’s President Tony Ward and his wife Janice. Tea will be served at 4pm and there will also be a raffle.

Sarah Robinson, the secretary said: “We are celebrating the centenary with more entertainers, which include a singer and a band. We will also be decorating the hall with flowers.

“We expect 80 to 100 people to attend. We are quite pleased that we have survived 100 years and fully anticipate that we will enjoy ourselves.”

Free tickets will be distributed by volunteers. For tickets and information call Sarah Robinson on 01484 864565.
