PEOPLE are being offered more chances to express their condolences to the family of murder victim Gurmail Singh, inset.

Hundreds packed into St Hilda’s Church, Cowcliffe, at the weekend for a special memorial service for the popular 63-year-old shopkeeper.

And now church officials plans to open up the church for people to sign condolence books which will also be handed to Mr Singh’s family.

The Vicar, Canon David Ward, said they were delighted that so many people had turned out to pay tribute to a remarkable man.

And churchwarden Rita Jones said: “We were overwhelmed by the large number of people attending the service at St Hilda’s on Sunday afternoon.

“We estimate about 400 people turned up and not everyone who wished to do so managed to sign the Book of Condolence.

“Some people asked if the church would be open again so that they could have access to the book. I am arranging to open the church tomorrow lunchtime between 12.30pm and 1.30pm and also tomorrow evening between 7.00pm and 9.00pm.”

Another memorial is being planned for Saturday, at the Hanfia Institute and Mosque in Lockwood.

It is being arranged by officials of the local Muslim community and the Mosque will be open on Saturday, between 7pm and 8pm.

Three 17-year-old Huddersfield youths and a 20-year-old Huddersfield man have been charged with the murder and robbery of Mr Singh and are being held in custody.

Mr Singh died after an alleged robbery at his shop in Cowcliffe Hill Road on February 20.
