HOMEBUYERS might think twice about their dream property – if the house number is 243.
Research by price comparison website confused.com says that’s Britain’s unluckiest house number.
Almost 45% of home insurance claims made since January, 2007, relate to a property numbered 243.
Curiously, seven of the top 10 unluckiest homes are in the two hundreds – with 201, 240, 241, 221, 217 and 218 almost making an appearance.
However, number 13 – thought to be the unluckiest – comes in 182nd in the list with only 18% of homeowners from this number making a claim.
The survey showed that 75% of all claims related to accidental loss and damage with theft accounting for just 4% of claims.
Gareth Kloet, head of home insurance at Confused.com, said: “Now is a peak time for home insurance claims as there have been more people in the house over Christmas which usually means more accidents.”
Halifax Home Insurance estimated that entertaining at home left a whopping £820m bill last year.
Mr Kloet said: “Judging by our numbers it looks as if 243 is a popular place for a party!”
Confused.com suggests that home owners check their home insurance policy to ensure they are covered against accidental damage as policies can vary.
