THREE taxi drivers were victims of robberies on the same evening this week.

In Crosland Moor, Fartown and Sheepridge on Tuesday cabbies were attacked and had property stolen.

In all three cases they were attending what they thought were genuine fares, only to be confronted by people intent on targeting them in the course of their jobs.

What made the situation even more disturbing was the fact that the attacks bore similar hallmarks and would appear to have been linked.

No-one should have to fear for their safety when they are going about their daily business simply trying to earn a living.

These were frightening attacks for those involved and were not the first on taxi drivers in Huddersfield. Everyone will remember the case of Mohammad Parvaiz, who was killed in a racist murder in Golcar in 2006.

We should be doing everything we can to protect people who are doing a public service. Many people rely on taxis and the drivers should be able to do their jobs in peace.

We are also wanting help to track two shoplifters caught on CCTV in Fartown.

A man and a woman entered 24-hour off licence Fartown News on Bradford Road in the early hours of February 7.

They picked up two bottles of wine and left without paying. The woman then went back into the shop and took another four bottles.

The suspects were confronted by the shopkeeper who managed to recover some of the bottles but was punched in the face and neck by the man.

Anyone with information about either the robberies or the shoplifters should call Huddersfield CID on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
