LAST week I appealed for help to catch the person responsible for the theft of a wallet from a bank customer.

As the result of a great response to the CCTV images published in the Examiner, a 51-year-old woman has now been arrested and charged with the offence.

Many thanks to all those who contacted us. It demonstrates the importance of the public’s help with police work.

This week two of our suspects are believed to have conned a shop cashier out of money.

The two men walked into furnishings store Dunelm on Beck Road at lunchtime on March 11 carrying £200 in £20 notes.

They told the woman they wanted to exchange them for £10 notes and handed the bundle of cash over.

The cashier counted out £200 in £10 notes and gave them to one of the men.

But the suspects then said they had changed their minds and wanted the £20 notes back.

They handed back the money she had given them and left.

On counting the money, the cashier realised that they had only given her £150 back.

Both men are described as being of eastern European appearance and had foreign accents. One was about 5ft 9ins tall, the other about 5ft 5ins.

One had a gold tooth and was about 35 years-old. The other was about 37.

Both were wearing dark leather coats.

The officer dealing with the case is Pc Wendy Orford.

Our other CCTV images shows a man who is suspected of stealing a security sensor from the door of the Tesco Express store on New Hey Road in Marsh on the night of April 28.

Anyone with information should contact Pc Anne Gilliver. Both Pc Gilliver and Pc Orford can be contacted via 0845 6060606.
